Fort Worth has no connection with the confederate president Jefferson Davis, and yet we have a park off Townsend Drive in southwest Fort Worth named for him.

Jefferson Davis Park was purchased in 1923, at the height of the Ku Klux Klan revival in Fort Worth. The park, and many other memorials and monuments across the country, were part of a revisionary myth of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy and an effort to preserve white supremacy.

We propose changing the name of Jefferson Davis Park. Given the diverse demographics of the park's surrounding neighborhood and our city, Fort Worth should find a more appropriate name for the park. The final name should be the result of community input.

In light of the horrific events in Charlottesville, VA, now is the time. Please join us in urging the Fort Worth city council and Mayor Betsy Price to make this change.
