Save the Cwrtycadno Valley

Save the Cwrtycadno Valley
The Issue
The Cwrtycadno and upper Cwm Cothi valley in Wales is an ancient area of exceptional beauty within a council designated Special Landscape Area and CADW designated Registered Historic Landscape. But it is currently under threat of being irreversibly destroyed.
A Guernsey incorporated private equity company, Foresight Group Holdings Ltd, registered in The Shard in London, has bought up an entire farm, Frongoch, in the centre of the valley. Their original plan was to blanket plant commercial, non-native conifers over most of the existing fields and hillside, selling off carbon credits to their financial investors for profit.
Such a proposed plantation would destroy productive agricultural land, both on the valley floor and on the hilltop, which has been sustainably sheep farmed for generations. A monoculture tree species of Sitka Spruce and Douglas Fir would detrimentally impact on native biodiversity and local ecosytems. It would irreversibly ruin the landscape of the valley.
Disturbingly, despite being incorporated off-shore, Foresight are also applying for Welsh tax payer money to cover their costs of the planting.
We are a group of local farmers and residents who want Foresight to change their plans. The good news is that Foresight have now indicated that they are prepared to listen to the local community and to adapt their plans, but we need to continue to register our opposition. We are asking Foresight to leave the agricultural fields for continued farming and to plant deciduous broadleaf tree species native to the British Isles in keeping with the natural landscape.
Help us to preserve the beauty of this valley and protect the Welsh countryside. Please sign our petition.
