After a petition was made, Fordham University made a statement regarding the murder of George Floyd and other innocent black men, women, and children by police. While that statement was nice, it is the bare minimum and comes off as disingenuous as we had to organize to get it. If Fordham University is really committed to fighting injustice as a Jesuit institution, they need to put their money where their mouth is. Support the people that are on the frontlines protesting and fighting the injustices the members of your community inside Fordham as well as outside in the Bronx face. Fordham needs to show solidarity not only with its students directly impacted by police brutality and but with the community they claim to want to have a better relationship with, the Bronx. This petition is for Fordham University to show that they are standing with us as we fight injustice, not just sending out a statement that is meaningless as we fight for our rights. Donation to NYC bail funds demonstrates that they acknowledge the work of the people in the Bronx and other boroughs in fighting the heinous system that is made to oppress us and that they support this work. Fordham University show your students (and the Bronx community you are located in) that you are in solidarity with us in fighting inequality. Telling us does nothing.
