The Issue

Driving in and around York has become increasingly treacherous due to the proliferation of potholes on nearly every road. It's gotten to the point where avoiding damage to your car has become almost impossible, and for me, this has become a personal battle. My own vehicle has suffered repeated damage from these potholes, leading to costly repairs that could have been avoided if our roads were properly maintained.

The neglected state of our roads is not just a financial burden; it is a leading cause of accidents, jeopardizing the safety of every commuter and pedestrian in York. According to statistics from the Department for Transport, there were over 400 reported accidents last year within the city attributed to poor road conditions. This is completely unacceptable and must be urgently addressed to prevent even more serious accidents in the future.

We are calling on the York City Council to take immediate action to fix the potholes and improve road conditions. It is their responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents and visitors. By neglecting this duty, they are placing everyone who uses these roads at an unnecessary risk.

Several cities across the UK, like Nottingham and Edinburgh, have set precedent by implementing regular road maintenance schedules and community reporting systems to address and fix road issues proactively. We urge York City Council to adopt similar measures that will regularly and efficiently maintain our roads.

Join us in demanding that the York City Council fulfill their obligation to maintain safe roadways for all. Sign this petition and help us hold them accountable for making our roads safer and more accessible. Together, we can drive change and make a safer future for York.
