Force Peter Mandelson to repay £75,000 severance pay

The Issue

Having served as a police officer for 30 years, I have witnessed first-hand the profound and lasting impact that sexual offences can have on victims, their families, and the broader community. The emotional and psychological scars can be overwhelming, and support services are often the lifeline that victims need to begin the healing process.

In light of this, it is particularly galling to witness public figures receive exorbitant severance packages while our victim support services remain underfunded. In this instance, Peter Mandelson, a former high-ranking government official, received a severance payment of £75,000. This sum, rather than padding the pockets of those already financially secure, could serve a much greater good by either returning to government coffers or being directed to charities dedicated to supporting victims of crime.

Peter Mandelson's position and influence should not exempt him from accountability and fairness. Public funds are meant to serve the public interest, and in this case, they could significantly benefit victim support services, helping to ensure that victims of crime receive the care and resources they need.

Transparency and accountability are vital in our leaders, particularly when it involves public finances. Redirecting the £75,000 to either the government or charities not only promotes these principles but also offers a concrete step towards supporting crime victims in their recovery journey.

This petition calls upon the relevant authorities to take immediate action to ensure that Peter Mandelson repays the £75,000. Let us stand together in solidarity for transparency, accountability, and the fair allocation of public funds. Your signature can make a difference in ensuring that this unjust severance payment serves a meaningful and just cause.

Please sign this petition to demand that Peter Mandelson repays the £75,000 severance pay, supporting either government functions or victim support charities.
