Force Lopez MP to see the devastation in our communities caused by broadband legislation

The Issue

We, the undersigned, invite Julie Lopez MP (Minister of State for Media and Data), to visit the residents of our cities, towns and villages and to see and hear first-hand our dreadful experiences of cowboy code operators who have installed and continue to install unnecessary and unwanted full fibre broadband infrastructure and the impact of their actions on our communities.

The current legislation has enabled and encouraged code operators to ignore codes of practice, health and safety legislation, local authority officials and any potential for infrastructure sharing agreements with incumbent operators. They are using this legislation to exploit our homes and our environments for profit.

They have made absolutely no attempts at prior public consultation and have no intention of reducing the impact of pole proliferation on residents’ visual aspects.

The sole motivation of these companies is to install as many unwanted, outdated and unnecessary masts and poles as possible before the legislative loophole can be closed. This will ensure that they can develop their own network infrastructure which can in turn become their tangible business asset and can be sold on.

The insistence of both Central Government and the Minister for Media and Data that the legislation is working as intended is ‘at best’ shortsighted and ‘at worst’ clearly intended to ignore the vast nationwide damage that the legislation is causing.

This is what MPs are currently being encouraged to read for advice. It clearly demonstrates the 'stitch-up' and pro-poles nature of the legislation.

Did the Government simply forget that they had already committed to review the situation and DSIT said they were considering new measures?!!!
