Bakery Donuts, 1203 W. 11th St., is being targeted because the owner spoke to City Council a couple of years ago on how the concrete median in front of her business affected sales.

A group of bikers recently entered her business to scream that it was her fault that the bike lanes were being removed and they would tell all their friends to stop buying donuts there. The owner was still in tears this morning. This small local business is how her family makes its living. She could have, but did not report the incident to the Precinct 1 Constable’s office; she does not want more trouble.

This was the fear that many businesses we approached for support had, and refused to do so publicly.

Emmanuel Nunez, an ardent supporter of protected bike lanes, and organizer of A Tale of Two Bridges and the website I Love 11th St said, “I hate to say it but we have PLENTY of hot chicken and donuts/kolaches around town. I would rather save lives and have walkable neighborhoods than saving a couple of businesses….” Note that Nunez works for property developers Lovett Commercial.

The bike mafia has mounted an assault on all of us in print, broadcast and social media, and at the ‘Hands Off’ rally at City Hall on Saturday 4/5. No billboards yet.

So many businesses have suffered due to the bike lanes…some talking to us quietly, some talking quietly to Mayor Whitmire.

Stop I Love 11th St, BikeHouston and the property developers from destroying small businesses like Bakery Donuts.

If you care about this, PLEASE make a point to go in today or soon to REASSURE HER that we are behind her. You don't have to buy donuts, but if you do, that will be a bonus.

Bakery Donuts, 1203 W. 11th St open every day 5am - 3pm.

Do you still believe that the bike lanes on 11th Street are unnecessary and dangerous?

> Do you still believe the curbs should be removed?

> Do you believe a HAWK light at Nicholson is the proper way to protect trail users?

> Do you believe that West 11th Street is dangerous without a center turn lane?

> Do you believe that 11th Street is less safe for the community because emergency vehicles (firetrucks, ambulances, etc.) cannot travel there because the lanes are too narrow? (They now travel 10th St, a narrow residential street, which has seen more crashes than before.)

> Do you believe the protected bike lanes and associated concrete medians, pedestrian islands, and floating bus stops (which thankfully have been removed) were poorly designed and implemented?
