At the December 2nd Board of Education meeting, President Ficke Bradford stated the following:
“Also on November 18 the Board of Education issued its decision on a complaint directed at Board Member Erin Chan Ding alleging violations of Board policy. As part of its decision Miss Ding must complete training on policy 2:105, Ethics and Gifts Ban, and the training has been scheduled for December 3rd. The Board does not have the authority to remove Miss Ding from the Board. Per school code only the Lake County Regional Superintendent has such authority. Miss Ding has the legal right to campaign for the office of state representative while continuing to serve as a School Board member. Erin and all of the School Board members are aware of the policies that the Board has in place and Erin has been reminded that District resources may not be utilized in support of her state representative campaign. The Board will continue to expect that all of us will adhere to our Board policies. And again, as a reminder, the goal of the Board is to continue our focus on framework 220 and the daily work of the Board.”
This is a cop out. The 220 Board has the right to petition the Lake County Regional Superintendent for the removal of Erin Chan Ding for flagrant violations of School Board policy. The community has shown support for this action and we urge the supporters of this petition to contact all of the School Board members and request them to petition the Lake County Regional Superintendent, Michael Karner, Ed.D., for Chan Ding’s removal.
