For the preservation, funding stability, and growth of IndexFungorum

The Issue

The purpose of this petition is for the voice of the mycological community to be heard regarding the need to preserve, fund and grow the invaluable nomenclatural site IndexFungorum.

As you are unfoundedly aware, IndexFungorum is an invaluable resource to the mycological community, storing and exposing in a convenient manner, critical nomenclatural information, collected and painstakingly organized over the decades. Currently, IndexFungorum is hosted and funded by the Royal Botanical Garden at Kew, UK. Unfortunately, there seem to be multiple signs of waning support in recent years. Mr. Paul Kirk, who did the lion's share of work, has been retired for a decade, without an apparent replacement resource. He is working pretty much, when, and as he can. Communication has become spotty, turnaround times less crisp. There is a legitimate concern about the future funding and support for IndexFungorum. Therefore, we need to have our voice heard, so that the Royal Botanic Gardens are aware of the tremendous importance of IndexFungorum to the mycological community worldwide and share commitment to its preservation and growth in the future.
