For the People: Fair Access to Healthcare in East Orange

The Issue

Access to healthcare should never depend on whether you can find a parking spot.
We, the patients and residents of East Orange and neighboring communities, are calling on the City of East Orange to remove the strict parking restrictions around our medical offices that prevent patients from receiving timely care.

Because of new and excessive parking rules — including limited-time zones, confusing signage, and heavy enforcement — many patients, especially seniors, people with disabilities, and working families, are unable to park long enough to see their doctors. Some have even been forced to cancel appointments or pay unnecessary fines just to receive medical care.

This is unfair and unacceptable. Healthcare access must come before parking enforcement.

With local elections approaching, we urge our elected officials to remember that public service means serving We the People — the very individuals who placed their trust in you. It is not serving the people who elected you to office when policies create barriers to healthcare.
Patients already pay their co-pays to see their doctors — they shouldn’t have to pay parking tickets too.

We are asking the City of East Orange to:
- Remove or modify restrictive parking rules surrounding medical offices.
- Create designated patient parking areas with fair time limits.
- Work collaboratively with healthcare providers to ensure patients can safely and easily access care.

Let’s build a city that listens to its residents and acts with compassion, fairness, and accountability.
We believe in a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Let’s make East Orange a city where patients come first.

Sign this petition if you believe the City should remove strict parking restrictions and make access to healthcare easier for everyone.
