I’m sure many of you have read or heard about the 2 beluga whales, Little Grey and Little White, that have been rescued and transported from a Marine Park in China, to a fabulous marine sanctuary in Iceland, called Sea Life Trust.
It’s been more than 11 years since they last swam in oceanic waters, but now, finally, they will again.
This is incredible news that fills me with joy and strength to continue fighting for the freedom of the dolphins in our country and for the prohibition of dolphin parks, and the breeding and selling of dolphins. This is another example that confirms that we have a chance of stopping this atrocious trade. Where there is a will there is a way, not like Barcelona did, transporting the 3 dolphins that were left in the Barcelona Zoo to the Athens Zoo.
Now, these beluga whales have an opportunity, a new life ahead of them. This is why I invite you to see a not very famous but fabulous documentary, accomplished by two Russian women, both free divers, called “Born To Be Free”, (you can find it on Netflix). These two women investigate the horrible business that is for Russia and other countries, the illegal capture and selling of cetaceans. There are spectacular moments in the documentary, where through a journalistic format, they show how the trading of these animals happens from beginning to end. It highlights the cruelty with which cetaceans are stolen from their natural habitat, usually by locals who receive very little money to capture them, while those who earn large amounts of money, are the final sellers. The documentary ends showing this cruel chain: the huge water parks and aquariums that are buying and selling these poor animals.
Please, help me sharing this petition so that these cetacean cages see their end in Spain. #NoCountryforDolphins.
