Enough is enough! We demand an independent investigation into the destruction of Puerto Rico’s coasts and government corruption

 

 

To the Puerto Rican people, federal agencies, and the international community:

 

Puerto Rico is more than just an island in the Caribbean; it is our home, our culture, our history, and our heritage. Our coastlines, our natural resources, and our quality of life are under attack due to corruption and the impunity with which certain government officials operate.

 

Recently, troubling actions have come to light, revealing a pattern of abuse of power:

✅ Destruction of protected mangroves and coastal areas to benefit private interests.

✅ Use of police force to intimidate citizens exercising their right to protest.

✅ Suspicious executive orders designed to shut down investigations and shield politically connected individuals.

✅ Strategic government appointments to prevent federal agencies from intervening in these matters.

 

This is not an isolated incident. It is yet another chapter in Puerto Rico’s long history of corruption, from the mismanagement of hurricane recovery funds to shady contracts at the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), and the systematic selling of our island to the highest bidder while its people struggle to survive.

 

We demand immediate and concrete action:

 

1️⃣ An independent and federal investigation into the destruction of natural resources and the ties between government officials and those benefiting from these actions.

2️⃣ A halt to all illegal constructions and full environmental restoration of affected areas.

3️⃣ Protection for environmental activists and protesters who have been persecuted for defending our natural heritage.

4️⃣ A full audit of all agencies responsible for environmental permits to determine if they have acted against the public interest.

5️⃣ Real anti-corruption reforms to ensure that those responsible face legal consequences.

 

This petition is just the beginning. If we don’t act now, our beaches will continue to be privatized, our natural resources will be destroyed, and our island will be sold off piece by piece.

Basta ya! Exigimos una investigación independiente sobre la destrucción de nuestras costas y la corrupción en Puerto Rico

 

Al pueblo puertorriqueño, las agencias federales y la comunidad internacional:

 

Puerto Rico es más que un archipiélago en el Caribe; es nuestro hogar, nuestra cultura, nuestra historia y nuestra herencia. Nuestras costas, nuestros recursos naturales y nuestra calidad de vida están en peligro debido a la corrupción y la impunidad con la que operan algunos en el gobierno.

 

En los últimos meses, se han revelado acciones que evidencian un patrón de abuso de poder:

✅ Destrucción de manglares y zonas marítimo-terrestres para beneficiar a intereses privados.

✅ Uso de la fuerza pública para intimidar a ciudadanos que ejercen su derecho a protestar.

✅ Órdenes ejecutivas sospechosas que buscan archivar investigaciones y proteger a personas con conexiones políticas.

✅ Nombramientos estratégicos que impiden la intervención de agencias federales en estos asuntos.

 

Este no es un caso aislado. Es otro episodio en la larga historia de corrupción que ha asfixiado a Puerto Rico, desde el mal manejo de fondos de recuperación tras el huracán María, hasta los contratos turbios en la Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica, y la venta de nuestro país al mejor postor mientras el pueblo lucha por sobrevivir.

 

Por eso, exigimos acciones concretas e inmediatas:

 

1️⃣ Una investigación independiente y federal sobre la destrucción de recursos naturales y los vínculos entre funcionarios gubernamentales y los beneficiarios de estas acciones.

2️⃣ Detención de construcciones ilegales y restauración ambiental en todas las zonas afectadas.

3️⃣ Protección para los manifestantes y activistas ambientales que han sido perseguidos por defender nuestro patrimonio natural.

4️⃣ Auditoría a todas las agencias encargadas de permisos ambientalespara determinar si han actuado en contra del interés público.

5️⃣ Una reforma real contra la corrupción para garantizar que los responsables enfrenten consecuencias legales.

 

Esta petición es solo el comienzo. Si no actuamos ahora, seguirán privatizando nuestras playas, destruyendo nuestros recursos naturales y vendiendo nuestra isla pedazo a pedazo.
