For Ashton: Make Publicly Accessible Bleed Kits Available in Towns Across the UK
The Issue
My name is Sophie and I run J.O.Y – The Joy Of You, a community organisation supporting women facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
I am starting this petition with the full support of Camille, mum to 19-year-old Ashton Harrington.
Ashton was a son, a brother and a daddy. His mum describes him as loyal, loving, funny and someone who could light up a room with his smile and laugh.
In April 2026, Camille received the knock on the door that no parent should ever have to receive. Ashton had died after suffering stab wounds.
There are ongoing legal proceedings surrounding Ashton’s death and this petition is not about those proceedings. It is about what we can do going forward.
Camille wants something positive to come from an unimaginable loss.
We are asking for greater access to publicly accessible bleed-control kits in town centres and other high-footfall public spaces across the UK.
When someone suffers catastrophic bleeding — whether through violence, an accident or another emergency — every minute matters.
Bleed-control kits contain emergency equipment designed to help control severe blood loss while emergency services are on their way.
These kits already exist in communities around the UK.
We want to see them become far more widely accessible, clearly identifiable and available in the places where they may be needed most.
We cannot say what would have changed the outcome for Ashton, and we will not speculate.
But Camille does know this:
If greater access to emergency bleed-control equipment could give another person a chance, another family more time, or help prevent another parent experiencing the devastating loss she now lives with, she wants to fight for it.
This is for Ashton.
For the 19-year-old boy with the huge personality.
For the daddy.
For the son who was so incredibly loved.
And for every family who hopes they will never need a bleed kit — but deserves for one to be there if they do.
