Foothills United: Time for Change
The Issue
Petition for Transparency, Accountability, and Improved Management at Calgary Foothills Soccer Club
Calgary Foothills Soccer Club
Attn: Board of Directors, Calgary Foothills Soccer Club
We, the undersigned members of the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club community, unite to express our collective concerns regarding the management and transparency within our beloved club. As committed parents and stakeholders, we believe it is imperative to address the following critical issues:
- Staff Turnover: We are deeply troubled by the recent departure of key staff members who played pivotal roles in our children's development. Their dedication and passion were instrumental in creating positive experiences for players and parents alike. Their exits highlight significant concerns about the club's ability to retain valuable assets.
- Lack of Transparency: The club's management's lack of transparency and communication regarding essential decisions and developments has left many uninformed and 'in the dark '. This lack of information is crucial to our children's athletic and personal growth, and we believe it's time for a change.
- Financial Accountability: Questions have been raised about the management and allocation of club fees and resources. Parents are increasingly uncertain about how their financial contributions are utilized, particularly in supporting essential staff members and enhancing our children's soccer experience. This uncertainty is a significant concern, and we believe the Board must address it.
These issues have led to widespread frustration and disillusionment among parents across various age groups within the club, many of whom have already left the organization. We are deeply concerned about the long-term implications for our club's future if these issues are not promptly addressed.
Therefore, we respectfully petition the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club Board to take immediate action to:
- Improve Transparency and Communication: Provide clear and regular updates on club operations, including staff changes and significant developments. We request a detailed plan on how the Board intends to enhance transparency and keep the community informed by the rules governing non-profits under Alberta law.
- Ensure Financial Accountability: Offer a comprehensive breakdown of how club fees are managed and allocated. We ask for a clear explanation of the financial oversight measures to ensure resources are used effectively to support our children's soccer experience. We request that the Board give advance notice of the Annual General Meetings so members can attend and effect changes if necessary.
- Commitment to Retaining Critical Staff Members: Confirm your commitment to retaining essential staff who contribute significantly to our children's development. We request a detailed plan on how the club intends to achieve this, including any strategies for staff retention and support.
Additionally, we request that the club follow up with the members via an online meeting by September 13th, 2024, or prior to the registration of the Indoor 2024/2025 Season, whichever comes first, on a course of action on how to they plan to remedy the situation. This meeting will allow open dialogue, ensuring that all members are informed and can voice their concerns directly to the Board.
We believe that by addressing these concerns transparently and promptly, the club can regain the confidence of its members and continue to provide a nurturing environment where both staff and players can thrive.
Thank you for considering our petition. We look forward to your swift and meaningful response to these critical issues.
Sincerely,
Calgary Foothills Soccer Club Members
