We are a collection of frustrated parents that demand the FDA ban all mentholated tobacco and vape products, in conjuncture with all other flavors, immediately in ALL forms!

Menthol has long been, and continues to be used to entice youth into smoking and now vaping. The properties of menthol are used purposefully to sweeten the taste and numb the throat, this allows smokers and vapers to inhale deeper, enhancing the addictive effect of nicotine, making them easier to smoke and harder to quit. 

The tobacco industry has strategically and aggressively targeted the African American community with menthol cigarettes for decades. It’s no accident that nearly 9 in 10 Black smokers use menthol cigarettes. The vape industry has repeated this strategy by specifically targeting African American teens with menthol products. 

This petition will be submitted to further endorse a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California that the African American Tobacco Control Leadership Council (AATCLC), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Medical Association (AMA) along with other associations are waging against the FDA for failing to take further action to ban menthol specifically because of the harm its caused African American communities. 

The nicotine epidemic is still ravaging our youth:

• As many as 1 in 3 teens have vaped - often in their own bedrooms at home. 40% of teens that have vaped, do so frequently. 37% of them use menthol.
• During the Pandemic, vape companies have been directly marketing specifically to our vulnerable youth doing remote learning at home. Some online vape retailers are selling as many as 300 mentholated vape flavors - often in conjunction with other flavors. 
• According to a new Stanford study, teens who vape are five-to-seven times more likely to contract COVID. 

It has never been more urgent or timely for parents across the country to demand that FDA ban menthol and other flavored products that are hooking an entire generation on nicotine!
