FMCSA: Stop Hurting Carrier's business by resetting their authority!

FMCSA: Stop Hurting Carrier's business by resetting their authority!

The Issue

The majority of carriers actively operating their business are not aware that if their MC# goes Inactive for as little as ONE day their authority resets to 0 days of service.  This means a carrier who has been in business for 15 years can have their authority age reset to brand new overnight, putting them back to square one.  How is this possible?  If an insurance agent does not do their job correctly and allows the insurance to lapse, the carrier's business is at stake with no recourse.  This is not fair to the hard working men and women who labored day and night to build their business.

If a plumber or restaurant did not get their insurance renewed for a couple of days, do they start their business from day 1 again?  While trucking is different, there should be a grace time of at least 6 months before it moves their MC back to day 1.  They can record any inactive period but as long as their not running illegal, it should not affect their business.

Brokers and shippers these days look very carefully at how long a company has been in business.  Freight is denied to a lot of new carriers based on the fact that they don't have experience. We understand that.  But that is not fair if an experienced carrier has their authority set back to day 1 because there was a lapse of insurance for a day, a week, a month.

We need to tell the FMCSA to stop  recording their time in service this way.  Any carrier that is looking at this petition needs to know this:  It can happen to you.

I had a carrier that was inactive for one day and they set it back to Day 1.  He was in business for 5 years!

If we can get enough drivers to sign the petition, maybe this can be changed for the better!

Please forward to as many people as possible to get the word out!
