Fly Tipping

Fly Tipping
The Issue
Fly tipping costs local councils, farmers, wildlife trusts and other land owners over £100,000,000 a year to clean up. Much of this illegally dumped waste is toxic to people, their pets and wildlife as it contain asbestos as well as other dangerous chemicals. The people who fly tip cannot be under any illusion that their actions are justified, there can be no justification for this crime. Yet the current deterrents do little to put the perpetrators off.
Therefore, I think that as well as the current fines the means by which fly tippers carry out their crimes should be confiscated. In other words if a person is found to have been involved in fly tipping:
>their vehicles should be seized and sold off and the proceeds used to compensate the victims of the crime.
>they should be disqualified from driving
>they should only be allowed to resit their driving test once they have carried out sufficient community service to make up for the damage that they have caused.
When there is a cost of living crisis which leads to councils not having the funding for vital public services it cannot be right for us as tax payers to continue to foot the bill for the actions of the selfish minority so I believe that these steps will send a clear message to those who selfishly undertake fly tipping.
