The Issue

According to HM Government’s website ”the government wants to see more flags flown, particularly the Union Flag, the flag of the United Kingdom. It is a symbol of national unity and pride”.

We used to have a union flag in Osgood Park in Dedworth.  The flagpole is still there but the flag has been missing for some time.  Through the office of our local MP, I offered to donate a union flag to the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead (RBWM) and sought their permission/ agreement to flying the Union Flag at our park.

RBWM have refused my offer and said that they will not “install the Union Flag at this location”.  The councillor in charge has said that it could “create expectations for similar installations elsewhere, which would be difficult to manage.”  He also said that “there are ongoing costs with the installation, (such as) routine maintenance, replacement and health and safety checks”.

Let's bring back some pride to Osgood Park and ask RBWM to reverse its decision not to fly the Union Flag at our park.
