As a Chinese American living in America, we have Freedom of Speech Rights that those in China have never had. If you want to voice an opinion in China, you must do so carefully navigating the political language making sure it does not go in conflict with the Communist Party- otherwise your opinions will not only be deleted but you may end up in jail or executed. 

This is something that every Chinese has grown up knowing- an unstated rule that everyone just accepts because there is no alternative living under a communist government.

However, the democratic rule in HK affords citizens Freedom of Speech and if the Extradition Bill passes, these citizens will be at risk of persecution as those in Mainland China. 

HK is protesting to maintain these rights to uphold their freedoms and democracy against Communist China. 

As Chinese Americans, having escaped/left China - we understand and have first hand experienced the restrictive and oppressiveness of Communist China -this being the reason of our emigration to the US - therefore, I think we should support those in HK fighting for the freedoms that we enjoy in the US. 

I think we should spread awareness of our experiences in Communist China- and to do something to help support those in HK righting for their freedom.
