Automotive Technician’s pay are different from your normal hourly job. They get paid based on ran time for vehicles they work on. Say an oil change pays .30 hours, an alignment pays 1.20, etc… This means that when a business is struggling in this career field techs are sitting around for 8-12 hours not getting paid a dime. Not only does this happen consistently, but when they pay lube technicians on flat rate they struggle immensely because of their lack of experience, and because of the low paying jobs they receive day by day. This petition is to make paying lube technicians flat rate illegal and make them pay all workers who need to buy their own tools and equipment for the job twice the minimum wage. If we lose we can suffer longer wait time’s at dealerships because tech’s are quitting, and also lose quality work because techs are constantly chasing the clock and are taking shortcuts whether they negatively impact their performance or not.
