The Issue
To the attention of:
Advocate Warren Sean Chiwawa, The Town Clerk, City of Harare
Eng. Isiah Zvenyika Chawatama, The Director of Works, City of Harare
Cllr. Jacob Mafume, Mayor of Harare
Advocate Felix Tapiwa Mhona, The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development
Picture this: you're rushing to work in Borrowdale, hoping to get there on time, but the moment you hit the intersection at Borrowdale Road and Whitwell Road, you're stuck. Not by slow-moving traffic, but by an endless standstill. The traffic lights, supposed to regulate flow and ensure safety, are perpetually malfunctioning.
This malfunction causes extreme congestion, turning what's supposed to be a smooth commute into an ordeal that costs time, raises tempers, and even endangers lives. Every single day, drivers and pedestrians navigate this chaos, and with each passing day, the clutter of vehicles only increases.
But congestion isn’t our only worry. This busy intersection is a hotspot for traffic accidents. With the traffic lights not operational, cars zoom through unregulated, leading to multiple crashes, near-misses, and hazardous situations. These are not just statistics; they are stories of shattered cars, injuries, and heartbreak.
This neighborhood deserves better. It is high time the Harare City Council addresses this urgent need. We need functional traffic lights at Borrowdale Road and Whitwell Road to restore order, improve traffic flow, and save lives.
The solution is clear: repair or replace the defective traffic light system immediately. Local authorities routinely allocate funds for road maintenance and infrastructure projects, and this intersection requires urgent attention.
By signing this petition, you are calling on the Harare City Council to prioritize the safety and efficiency of one of our most essential thoroughfares. We urge the city council to act swiftly and provide the necessary resources to have the lights repaired or replaced. Let’s make this road safer for all who travel through it.
Please sign this petition to make our voices heard and to be part of the change needed to improve safety and ease congestion on our roads. Together, we can hold the city accountable and ensure a safer commuting experience for everyone in our community.
