Broken Hill has an Aged Care crisis, there are no beds available for respite or permanent care, Broken Hill Hospital has patients who have been waiting almost a year to get accommodation and those beds could be used for people who need hospitalisation. 

The inability of Southern Cross Care to do something about the issues resulting from their difficulties with accreditation means that a backlog is created affecting the entire Broken Hill community. 

The Hon Mark Butler Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care has the option of a temporary reclassification to MMM6 Remote communities to enable the only aged residential care provider to reopen some of its beds, whilst meeting the new aged care standards for registered nurses. Roy Butler has already contacted the minister in this regard but is still waiting for a reply.

Even if it's only a temporary measure, we need this reclassification NOW.
