Fix Pokémon Center Drops: Replace the Broken Queue with a Fair Lottery Verification
The Issue
The Problem: The Virtual Queue is Broken and Favors Scalpers
Every major release on PokemonCenter.com follow the exact same heartbreaking script for true fans, collectors, and players. An exclusive item drops—whether it's a highly anticipated Pokémon TCG expansion, a limited-edition Elite Trainer Box, or a special plush—and the website immediately crashes.
Genuine human buyers are forced to stare at "Sleeping Pikachu" error pages, stuck in endless loading screens, or randomly booted to the back of a virtual queue. Meanwhile, automated bots and scalper scripts effortlessly bypass these defenses, OOS product while the man behind the bot is having lunch. Moments later, these exact same products are listed on secondary marketplaces at three to four times their retail value.
The current system does not reward the loyalty of real collectors and players who dont know how to get a bot or afford a bot; it rewards the speed of automated software.
The Solution: Implement the Japanese Lottery and Account Verification Model
We are calling on The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) to completely retire the archaic, first-come-first-served virtual queue for high-demand, limited-edition releases on Western Pokémon Center websites (US, UK, and Canada).
Instead, we urge Pokémon Center to adopt a Fair Choice Lottery System, heavily inspired by the successful models already utilized by Pokémon Center Japan. We propose the following structure:
Extended Entry Windows: Instead of forcing millions of human users to log on at the exact same second, open a 48-to-72-hour window where users can log into their verified Pokémon Center accounts and "Express Interest" to enter a product drawing.
Strict SMS and Address Verification: To ensure entries belong to real people, tie lottery submissions to a verified phone number (via SMS verification) and enforce a strict policy of one entry per verified household/billing address.
Randomized Selection Over Speed: Winners are drawn completely at random at the close of the window, totally neutralizing the advantage of speed-based bot scripts and giving everyday fans an equal, fighting chance.
Why This Matters
For millions of us, Pokémon is more than just merchandise—it’s a community, a competitive hobby, and a lifelong passion. The current shopping experience is filled with frustration, anxiety, and disappointment.
By transitioning to a lottery system, Pokémon Center can dramatically reduce server strain, level the playing field for human buyers, and ensure that limited-edition products end up in the hands of the true community rather than on a reseller's shelf.
