The Issue

To:
Frisco Independent School District (FISD), Texas Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Department of Education

Introduction:
We, the parents and concerned citizens of Frisco, Texas, urge Frisco ISD and national school nutrition authorities to improve the quality of food served in our schools. Every child deserves access to real, nutritious meals—not sugar-laden, ultra-processed options that harm their health and learning.

Problem Description:
Childhood obesity and poor nutrition are growing concerns nationwide. In Frisco, we see too many children struggling with unhealthy weight, energy crashes, and early signs of diet-related diseases. Yet, school lunches remain filled with:

  • Processed foods high in sugar, sodium, and artificial ingredients
  • Fried or packaged items labeled as “meals”
  • Sugary drinks like chocolate milk
  • Overcooked or canned fruits and vegetables lacking nutrients

Meanwhile, schools in London and other parts of the UK offer fresher, more balanced meals. Their cafeterias often include:

  • Fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins
  • Clear food labels indicating vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or allergen-free options
  • Stricter limits on added sugars and processed items

These changes have led to better overall student health, lower obesity rates, and improved academic performance.

If it’s working there—why not here?

Proposed Solution:
We urge Frisco ISD, in collaboration with state and federal leaders, to:

  1. Upgrade school menus to include more whole, unprocessed foods
  2. Limit added sugars, processed meats, and excess sodium
  3. Adopt farm-to-school programs using locally sourced produce
  4. Implement nutrition education to empower students with lifelong healthy habits
  5. Learn from successful models abroad, like those in London schools
  6. Add clear food labeling in cafeterias (e.g., vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free)

Call to Action:
This is about more than lunch—this is about protecting our children’s health, performance, and future. Our schools should be fueling learning, not feeding a health crisis.

Please sign and share this petition. Let’s demand real food and a real change—for the kids of Frisco, and children everywhere.

Closing:
We can’t afford to keep ignoring what we feed our children every day. Join us in making school meals part of the solution—not the problem.
