So many stories about rogue private landlords, but the real villains are Council housing.

There seems to be a systemic failure within local councils and it’s time for it to come to light. The sheer incompetence and failure of duty of care is outrageous.

I live in Westminster? Yes, THAT Westminster. I have lived here as a secure Tennant for nearly 18 years due to my mother passing and inheriting a secure tennancy. 
I have had numerous leaks and issues, asbestos floor tiles, and over the past 5/6+ years a persistent roof leak (which has mostly gone unnoticed until almost a WHOLE YEAR AGO. When I found my entire full bedroom cupboard was SWIMMING in wet, and several different types of mould. Green dust at first, black mould, grey string  type mould and orange slime mould type things.

i reported to Westminster City Council (my ‘landlord’) as soon as I noticed this back on 20th October 2025.

I’m a vulnerable adult who is unfortunately alone in this world and trying my best to a) keep my roof over my head and b) stay alive in this almost impossible world/country/situation.

despite Awabs law coming in, and having disrepair solicitors, WCC has continued to ignore, fail to communicate and fail to do their jobs. They are at breach of every single law and policy regarding making this flat habitable. 
they continue to disregard my doctors letters, my continued requests for a decant. 

Meanwhile an empty council property is empty downstairs from me! As there are empty properties going to ruin all over the country! 
Housing managers don’t know what is going on with their properties or residents, repairs teams don’t communicate with disrepair teams. Despite all three being in the SAME OFFICES.  

I believe an independent inquiry and investigation needs to be conducted into the failures and disregard of vulnerable residents in council housing. 
I’ve heard even worse stories locally and further afield than what I’m going through. 
This is and should be ILLEGAL.
