The Issue

People across the UK are suffering the consequences of poorly maintained roads and dangerous potholes. While many think of potholes as just an inconvenience or a cause of vehicle damage, the reality is far more serious.

For drivers and passengers living with spinal conditions, chronic back pain, or nerve damage, hitting potholes can cause severe physical pain and long-term suffering. Even a small jolt can aggravate existing spinal injuries and cause intense pain that can last hours or days.

Millions of people across the UK live with spinal problems or chronic pain conditions. Yet the impact that poor road maintenance has on their daily lives is rarely considered.

At the same time, motorists are facing costly vehicle repairs, damaged tyres, broken suspension, and increased accident risks due to unsafe roads.

Road maintenance is not a luxury. It is a basic responsibility of government and local authorities. When roads are left to deteriorate, it affects public safety, public health, and people’s quality of life.

This petition calls on the Government to prioritise proper funding and accountability for road maintenance and pothole repairs. Safe roads protect drivers, reduce costs for families, and prevent unnecessary pain for those living with serious spinal and chronic pain conditions.

The UK deserves roads that are safe, properly maintained, and fit for everyday life.

PERSONAL STORY -

This issue is deeply personal to me. My Mother has lived with a serious spinal condition for many years. Over time, the constant impact of travelling on uneven roads and hitting potholes has made her condition worse.

What many people see as a minor bump can cause her severe pain. There have been times where this has led to extreme flare-ups, leaving her in agony, causing significant anxiety, and even resulting in to her being hospitalised.
