I am writing this as a concerned and affected resident of Anthony Road in Portsmouth. For too long, we have been facing a problem that is not only inconvenient but also significantly threatening - drainage failure due to a neighbor's uninformed decision of filling in wetlands. This act obstructs water flow, causing a consistent waterlogging issue on our road, ultimately making it unsafe for driving.

Poor drainage systems can have severe consequences. According to the US Department of Transportation, over half of all flood-related drownings occur when a vehicle is driven into hazardous flood water. Furthermore, such misuse of wetlands can result in the loss of essential ecosystem services worth billions of dollars per year - as studied by The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.

Our local council should value the safety and well-being of its residents and take immediate action to repair the flawed drainage system. We need them to enforce rules and regulations protecting our environment, especially the wetlands.
