The Issue
To AFA Leadership, including Ken Diaz and the leadership of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA
We, the undersigned members of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA), strongly oppose any increase in union dues while flight attendants continue working without a new contract and without a pay increase for approximately six years. For half a decade, flight attendants have been negotiating while working under an outdated agreement. During this time, inflation and the cost of living have increased significantly, yet our wages have remained the same. Asking members to pay higher union dues under these circumstances is unreasonable and unfair. Increasing AFA dues while members have not received a salary increase in five years simply does not make sense. Flight attendants are already under financial pressure, and it is unacceptable to ask them to contribute more financially while they are still waiting for a fair contract. Our union should be fighting for flight attendants, not placing additional financial burdens on the very members it represents. The priority must be securing a strong contract with fair wages and improved working conditions — not increasing dues. Furthermore, any proposed increase in AFA dues must be decided democratically by the membership. As dues-paying members, we believe that any change to union dues must be voted on directly by the members. If any dues increase is ever approved by the membership through a democratic vote, it should not be implemented immediately. Any approved increase should only take effect following the 2030 implementation timeline, allowing members time to recover financially and benefit from a fair contract and future wage improvements. As members, we demand: Full transparency regarding the union’s financial position and budget. A clear explanation for why a dues increase is being considered while members have gone five years without a pay raise. A democratic vote by the membership before any dues increase can be implemented. That any approved dues increase only be implemented after 2030. Until a new contract is negotiated and approved by the membership, any increase in union dues is unacceptable. We call on AFA leadership, including Ken Diaz, to immediately stop any proposed dues increase and focus on delivering the fair contract that flight attendants have been waiting for. Signed,
Concerned Members of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA
