Once again, thank you to everyone who has signed the petition so far. I have received an email from James Freeman, who is Managing Director of First Bus. In the email, to cut the reply short, it says that Bath & North East Somerset Council can no longer provide the annual £50,000 for the 17A service. With the funding gone, due to First Bristol's "financial situation", the 17A can no longer operate. In the email, James Freeman also writes "While it is true that in our previous consultation people asked for the 42 to go to Keynsham, we simply cannot accede to this because to do so would be economically unsustainable, and we do not have spare resource to cross-subsidise such an operation, even if it were possible, which it is not. I very much regret that this is the case, but I cannot change it." In the next reply from James Freeman, the Managing Director has written: "For the reasons that I have been trying to explain to you, we are not going to be bale to keep the 17a bus service between Kingswood and Keynsham. This petition really needs to be addressed to the transport authority who has responsibility for the provision of services that cannot be operated commercially - in this case principally South Gloucestershire Council." ----- I have now emailed Bath & North East Somerset Council, as well as South Gloucestershire Council, asking for them to re-instate funding for the 17A, as First claims without the funding, they can not operate the service. Both councils have also received a link to this petition. In response to a comment about myself asking Wessex Bus and the councils for the return of the 533, I did also ask about the 17A, but although the route of the 533 did not include Southmead Hospital, if the service were to return, it would provide services to Keynsham, as well as to Cossham Hospital. There has always been a link in our area to Keynsham. It was only from September 2015, that we gained a direct link to Southmead. However, of course we don't want to lose our direct link with Southmead Hospital, but, reading the emails from James Freeman, it seems First are 100% axing the 17A - whether there is a petition or not. This is the reason I have asked about the 533, because it was operated by a different bus company - Wessex, and not First, who clearly don't want to help us out. Bringing back the 533 would also reinstate broken connections between the area and Longwell Green retail park, and Aspects Leisure Park. The only downside is a First day ticket would not be available on this service. As a final comment, I stand by my petition - I would prefer the 17A to be saved first, rather than the return of the 533. But if there was no option for the 17A to stay, I'd like to see a replacement. Thank you once again. LET'S SAVE OUR 17A!
