Fire Vice Principal Kalani Flores From Kanuikapono
The Issue
Kanuikapono Public Charter School needs your help again. They need to ensure that staff and students feel safe on campus during the 26-27 school year. They demand that the new Executive Director/Principal David Dooley immediately remove Vice Principal Kalani Flores due to his aggressive and threatening nature toward female employees and students at Kanuikapono. If Dooley doesn't do this then he is just an enabler for Flores and needs to leave too. Flores was put in place by the Kanuikapono Governing Board.
The heavily tattooed Kalani Flores is an intimidating 6'3", 300 lbs and looks like a football lineman. Flores is known for his pompous attitude, arrogance, manipulative tactics, and verbal abuse. Reports indicate the twice-divorced Flores has clear anger management issues and no regard for professionalism especially toward female co-workers. He is considered aggressive, a bully, and unapproachable.
During the 23-24 school year, Kalani Flores yelled using aggressive tones and gestures toward a female employee during a conversation about lunch duties. This incident is documented and was witnessed by students and staff. Kanoe Ahuna was Executive Director/Principal at the time and failed to investigate.
Numerous complaints about Kalani Flores were filed by employees while he was TA Vice Principal during the 25-26 school year. Those women were reportedly seen crying and visibly distraught after meetings with him. Some had pre-existing trauma. Some had suicidal thoughts afterward. An elderly substitute teacher left the school for good. These complaints need to be investigated and taken seriously by the new Executive Director/Principal David Dooley.
Kalani Flores is guilty of using foul and abusive language toward middle school students during the 25-26 school year. Students reported that Flores threatened to punch a misbehaving student while driving the school van. He also called students "pussies" on several occasions, and told one student to "pound the s**t" out of another student. His handling of student discipline has severely angered parents.
Many believe that Kalani Flores is manipulating the new Executive Director/Principal David Dooley to implement his own personal agenda at Kanuikapono which includes delusional changes to scheduling, SPED and Hōʻike while plotting his own eventual takeover of the school. Those plans include destroying the ‘Ike Hawaiʻi program and changing Kanuikapono into a DOE school. Anahola needs a Hawaiian Focused Charter School not a traditional school model. The ‘Ike Hawaiʻi team is unique to Kanuikapono and they have made a positive impact on hundreds of students.
The Kanuikapono Governing Board needs to do a better job of evaluating administrative candidates. Any new hires should be on a strict probationary period. Kanuikapono shouldn't have to go through another merry-go-round of poor administration.
The Kanuikapono staff remain a resilient and dedicated group because they love the students. They show up for the kids, not for a paycheck. They believe in the school's potential. They need your help in safely moving the school forward.
