Current PWHL Minnesota head coach Ken Klee is becoming a dictator. His favored treatment of those he likes and desire to remove those he does not- both above and below him- are damaging the culture and credibility of both PWHL Minnesota and the PWHL as a whole. On June 6, less than a week after PWHL Minnesota won the first ever Walter Cup championship, Klee demanded the firing of now-Hockey Hall of Famer and beloved general manager/team architect Natalie Darwitz in a move that we now know was premeditated and took place behind closed doors. At the PWHL Draft on June 10, Klee used his second round pick on Britta Curl, a known racist, homophobe, and transphobe whose selection for any PWHL franchise was opposed by fans of all six teams. Notably, and now infamously, Curl was nowhere near Minnesota's draft plans prior to Darwitz being forced out. On July 10, he dismissed three more assistant coaches that were popular among players, with statements being released about how Klee never collaborates with others on any decision-making and how power imbalances and favoritism are endemic to the Minnesota organization. Now, on July 12, rumors of his use of ableist and racist slurs have begun to surface. Fans of all six PWHL franchises do not want to see this tyranny and abuse continue to ruin the league they are devoted to.

Thousands of fans have renounced their social and financial support for PWHL Minnesota and the PWHL at large after the myriad of bewildering announcements that have come from PWHL Minnesota in the last five weeks. Fans like myself trying to stick it out with the team feel ashamed of the organization they thought they knew and loved. If decisions like this continue to be passed down, the media and financial repercussions could be enough to cause PWHL Minnesota to fold or the entire PWHL to suspend operations to try to recover. Ken Klee, a man, is seeking to singlehandedly ruin the best attempt to create a women's professional sports league in decades. Hockey fans of all genders cannot allow this to stand.

Ken Klee needs to be dismissed from his role as head coach immediately so that the team can unify and prepare to defend their Walter Cup championship this upcoming season rather than be divided by politics and negativity. If he remains, PWHL Minnesota will crumble competitively and functionally, and the entire league could go with it. The fans demand transparency, accountability, and change from the leader of their franchise, which Ken Klee does not and will never provide.
