The Issue

On the September 10th edition of Fox & Friends, hosts Brian Kilmeade, Lawrence Jones, and Ashley Earhardt condoned the murder of unhoused Americans struggling with their mental health.

In the segment, the trio were discussing the issue of homelessness and mental health. As they were discussing the continued the USA's continued struggle with these issues, they opined on their solutions, which quickly turned to Brian Kilmeade suggesting "involuntary lethal injection", here is a transcript of the exchange.

JONES: Put him in a mental institution, put him in a jail, and you guys figure it out. But people having to duck and dive on the trains and the buses, walking through the street, this is one case, but this is happening all across the country, and it's not a money issue. They have given billions of dollars to mental health and the homeless population. A lot of them don't want to take the programs, a lot of them don't want to get the help that is necessary. You can't give them a choice. Either you take the resources that we're going to give you and — or you decide that you are going to be locked up in jail. That's the way it has to be now.

BRIAN KILMEADE (FOX HOST): Or involuntary lethal injection.

JONES: Yeah.

KILMEADE : Or something. Just kill them.

EARHARDT: Yeah, Brian, why did it have to get to this point?

It is utterly vile and grotesque for the host of a mainstream media news program to suggest that ANY Americans be subjected to "involuntary lethal injection", let along some of our most vulnerable. In the same coverage where Fox News is lecturing Americans about how to talk about the late Charlie Kirk, they wish to levy the death penalty to Americans because of their struggles with housing and mental health.

If the standard for a cable news outlet to fire one of its commentators is critical commentary of a late political pundit, then condoning the murder of Americans has crossed that line in leaps and bounds.

We, the undersigned, call upon the leadership of Fox News to fire all three of the hosts: Brian Kilmeade for making the suggestion to kill the unhoused and those struggling with mental illness, and Jones and Earhardt for expressing agreement and solidarity with the suggestion.

As a nation, we should continue to discuss policy solutions to decrease homelessness and to get more Americans access to effective mental health services, but it is utterly abhorrent to suggest killing those Americans as one of those solutions. There should be no place on any of America's airwaves for this heinous discussion.
