The Issue

Under Klopp, Liverpool changed from doubters to believers. Under Slot, Liverpool have changed from believers into doubters.

In the 2024-25 football season, Liverpool FC won the Premier League title with 4 games to spare and a (eventually) 10-point gap above second-placed Arsenal. Naturally, football fans, both Liverpool-affiliated and not, expected Liverpool to be in next year's title race, especially after splurging exorbitant amounts of money on attractive new signings e.g. like Alexander Isak for £125 million ($170 million), Florian Wirtz for £116 million ($156 million), and Milos Kerkez for £40 million ($54 million).

However, those expectations are currently miles off the reality. Liverpool are currently sixth in the Premier League table, and mathematically almost out of the title race. They were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in October by Crystal Palace, losing 0-3 at Anfield. Granted, Liverpool are still in the FA Cup (quarterfinals) and Champions League (round of 16), but Liverpool are currently 1-0 down in their UCL tie against Galatasaray and face a resurgent Manchester City in the FA Cup quarterfinals. There is a very real possibility of Liverpool finishing the season trophyless, as well as outside the UCL places for next season. This would result in a major financial loss for Liverpool, with some sources estimating it could be as much as 120 million euros.

The spirit around the club is diminishing, too. Liverpool fans are watching games fearing defeat instead of anticipating wins. There is a resignment to fate with each goal that goes in, each embarrassment suffered, each bad decision made. Between perennially starting his "favorite" players, to dismissing members of his own squad in press conferences, to badmouthing the legendary Jurgen Klopp, Slot is adding fuel to the fire that threatens to sink Liverpool's ship. And, when, the ship is sinking, it's a good idea to throw out the arsonist.

With that said, I call for Liverpool to sack Arne Slot immediately. With only nine games left in the Premier League, we are at the point of the football season where Liverpool cannot afford any more failures. Slot's arrogance, stubbornness, nonchalance, and willingness to publicly blame his own players are a sure recipe for more embarrassment between now and the end of the season. With a new, competent coach, Liverpool could put a run together to get top-4 and/or a trophy to salvage this dumpster fire of the season.

There are hundreds of millions of Liverpool fans in the world. Their disappointment is morphing into depression, their fury into numbness, and their hope into resigned despair. Under Klopp, Liverpool changed from doubters to believers. Under Slot, Liverpool have changed from believers into doubters.

So what to do? It is high time that Liverpool fans put Arne Slot, and the Liverpool ownership and board by extension, under the searing, fiery pressure they deserve. Take "Slot Out" banners to Liverpool home games. Send fan letters to the club demanding Slot's sacking. Comment under articles, post online, and write newspaper opinion pieces. Speak up if interviewed on live TV. And sign petitions like this one. Arne Slot has failed Liverpool F.C., and it is PAST TIME that he was fired for somebody better able to take the reins and steer Liverpool out of their woeful form and back to the glory days.

As Klopp said after his final game at Liverpool, "change is good".
