Darryl Yap is a newbie Filipino video creator/director who has been viral because of his insensitive and socially irresponsible video contents published by his multi-media outfit Vincentiments on social media. These amateur videos drew flak from netizens for all the wrong reasons. His filmography includes poorly conceptualized and roughly edited video clips that are meant to "depict reality" and provoke discussion of uncomfortable topics.
However, it seems that the inexperienced "director" is deliberately creating such contents to draw social media views and fame instead of bringing up the issue for a smart discussion and eventually proper solution. Darryl Yap and his Vincentiments videos are socially irresponsible for the following reason:
1. Social media is an open platform that all ages have access to. Darryl Yap's and Vincentiments' videos normally go viral on big social media platforms like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. These contents use strong languages that are not appropriate to younger audience who are not yet in their age of discretion. Being a creator and social media influencer, he should be socially responsible with his contents that can affect and influence the minds of younger audience and may generations to come.
2. Darryl Yap and his team bring topics not to solve the issues but to go viral and monetize. Vincentiments' official Youtube channel has 1.51 M subscribers. His latest video KPL | Online Class garnered more than half a million views in just a matter of three days. His older videos also has substantial Youtube view months after the first broadcast. On his videos, Darryl and his team do not provide proposed solution or sensitive view of the topic, but instead he deliberately touches the wound to spur social outrage and publicity. The more controversial his topics are, the more views he garner in social media revenue, thus more money. His poor-quality contents also diminish the quality of our media industry.
3. Darryl Yap's and Vincentiments' videos are harmful to the masses, today's Filipino netizens, and the future generation. The inappropriate use of strong language and uncalled for undressing of female characters on his viral videos shows is a strong indication that the videos were not created for smart discussion. His latest video specifically disregards and put into bad light the role of teachers in our society and nation building by spitting cuss words on the institution. Imagine how our younger generation will see our educators and the education system in general.
I can still enumerate more basis why Darryl Yap, and his team in Vincentiments harm the Filipino society thru irresponsible social media contents, but I believe the above points are the most significant reasons to stop him from creating and publishing more trash contents.
