The issue
I am Kurian Varghese, aged 62, and I retired voluntarily as a Civil Engineer due to Colattic issues. Since 2018, I've been surviving on a Disability Support Pension. My wife, Mrs. Beenamoal Joseph, 60, works in the Disability Support Community. Both of us have been proud Australian citizens since 2012. However, our lives were turned upside down when we were deceived by members of our own Indian Malayali community—a syndicate running multiple dubious money auction schemes since 2012, in which we had absolutely no involvement.
The harrowing ordeal began when members of this syndicate persuaded me to lend A$130,000 from January to August 2022 to one of their business partners who was deeply ensnared in debts. In a shocking turn of events, this partner was involved in a suspicious car fire accident at midnight in Melbourne on 7th October 2022, suffering 60% burns, resulting in his admission to Alfred Hospital, where he slipped into a coma and tragically passed away on 4th November 2022.
We later uncovered substantial evidence indicating that this entire transaction was part of a meticulously pre-planned money laundering scheme. The devastation this has caused to both my wife and me is immeasurable—financially, emotionally, and in terms of our faith in humanity. We are victims of manipulation and greed, and we seek justice for the suffering we have endured.
This situation is not just a personal grievance but a community-wide issue that could impact many unsuspecting individuals. We implore the NSW District Court in Lismore or Sydney to take up our case seriously, to investigate this fraud thoroughly, and bring the culprits to justice. Ensuring accountability will protect further unsuspecting victims within our community and uphold the values of fairness and justice that our society cherishes.
