The UK government has now issued a blanket ban on all "zombie knives" which is law as of this Thursday. The ban is intentionally vague on what constitutes a "zombie knife", but does stipulate that they are now illegal to sell, hire, loan, manufacture or import. Anyone caught breaking this new law will face up to 4 years in prison. The Metropolitan Police issued guidance about "zombie" knives: "There is no specific shape or style, but they are very ornate and intended to shock In varying lengths and often with a serrated edge, the knives carry logos or words that glamorise and promote violence They can cause greater damage due to their size They are being sold as collectors' items online and in some shops" This new law is nothing more than a drive to disarm the UK public and stop the manufacture of any blades in the country. Here are some quotes from the BBC news article; Safeguarding minister Sarah Newton said the ban would "keep communities safe". Are we not always sold the lie that trading in our freedoms will result in more safety? Ms Newton said "zombie killer knives" cause "devastating damage". I swear every anti knife spokesperson uses meaningless alliteration to stimulate an emotional response in the public. "devastating damage".... fantastic. Alf Hitchcock, Chief Constable of the Ministry of Defence Police and lead on knife crime at the National Police Chiefs' Council, said police were pleased that legislation had been introduced "early" to tackle the "growing problem" of zombie knives. He said the "vast majority" of knife crimes involved kitchen knives, but zombie knives had "suddenly become very popular as a sign of bravado in gangs". Yvonne Lawson, whose son Godwin was stabbed to death in north London in 2010, welcomed the ban. Her son was not killed with a zombie knife, but she said she was "terrified" when she first saw one. If you would like to correct the UK government on this matter, protect heritage crafts, and say no to blanket bans which do not affect criminals, please share the petition.
