Passing by the Labour Group's offices in West Harrow yesterday I was given a leaflet and in it were the words we have all been waiting for!
As you know there has been a tireless two year campaign by Gareth Thomas MP, West Harrow Allotment Association and Harrow in Leaf against the development proposal for 178 (mostly) flats at 265 The Ridgeway which was rejected by local Labour councillors last year. There has recently been another application by the Brethren which the Council will shortly have to consider and here comes the good news!
The leaflet clearly states that Labour Council Leader Graham Henson has written to the Brethren informing them that the Covenant WILL NOT BE REMOVED as it stipulates the site is solely for the purpose of community use (and not housing)!
Our local Conservative councillors have also wholeheartedly supported local people's opposition to this development as well as the Harrow Green Party, so with this amount of weighty opposition, we are all hoping we can start to believe we may be successful in stopping this unsuitable proposal for good!
