Dear Hutto City Council Members and Mayor,

We are writing to express the deep concerns of the Hutto Farmers Market community, including tax-paying, law-abiding citizens of Hutto and the greater Texas area regarding the council’s desire to regulate free enterprise, stifle small businesses, and control private business operations on privately owned commercial property that was discussed during the City Council Work Session on December 14th, 2023.

Free enterprise is an economic system that provides individuals the opportunity to make their own economic decisions, free of government constraints, and as private profit-potential businesses. The key ingredient of the free enterprise system is the right of individuals to make their own choices in the purchase of goods, the selling of their products and their labor, and their participation in business structure.

Free, fair, open markets are a global force for good. The role of government should be limited, transparent, and fair. Every American must have the freedom to participate, the freedom to succeed, and the freedom to fail. 

By signing this petition, we, the undersigned business owners, and residents of Hutto, Texas and the greater Central Texas area respectfully request the City of Hutto to stop the spread of false and misinformed claims regarding law-abiding businesses and tax-paying citizens, treat all businesses equally without discriminating based on physical or financial size, and keep business regulations limited, simple, fair, and affordable for all residents.
