Fight Against AI in Academics

Fight Against AI in Academics
The Issue
Sign this if you believe academic honesty applies to all. Not just students.
"Acedemic Honesty", a value echoed to students since the beginning of their academic journey.
But what happens when those values are not followed by the very teachers, principles, and districts that demand them?
AI is being ushered in as a "tool" for productivity, but in reality, it's a crutch. The teachers lack the genuine know-how on the subject, and that reflects on the students deeply. How are students to be expected to work hard and learn when their teachers do not? This cannot go on for any longer.
WFISD is guilty of this very offense. (I can not attest to other schools’ policies, however this petition stands for any wrongful actions by any school district)
Personal anecdote: I am currently a NHS (National Honors Society) member and an active person within my community. I strive to do good and be better in all aspects, but especially in my pursuit for knowledge. I hold academic honesty in high regards, yet my school admin do not.
Throughout my time in high school, more and more AI powered "tools" have been thrust upon staff and students. I have detested these actions from the beginning. But in fear of my GPA being jeopardized, I complied. When AI generated images were being plastered onto campus walls, I stayed complacent still. Always voicing my opinion, yet never taking action. Until now.
As of today, 2/25/26, I was assigned a fully AI generated assignment by one of my teachers. The images, text, and questions were all flagged as AI generated content
When confronted by myself and another equally concerned student, our worry was dismissed by the teacher. This lit a fire in my gut something fierce. I expressed my concerns to other teachers of mine, only to receive a simular response echoing support for AI.
Deeply disappointed and quite frankly appalled by what I had witnessed, I chose to have a discussion with an administrator. In which, once again, my concerns were promptly dismissed. Given an answer that essentially equates to "I am sorry you feel that way."
This is a blatant spit in the face to the Academic standards all schools are meant to uphold.
Need more to say no to AI?
- AI steals intellectual property from hard working people like you and I.
- The data centers in which these AI generation programs are being housed are using and poisoning fresh water.
- The AI data centers drive up your electricity bill wherever they are established.
