Fieldstown Bridge Crossroads R122 Accident Black Spot

Fieldstown Bridge Crossroads R122 Accident Black Spot
The Issue
As residents of the area around Fieldstown Bridge crossroads on the R122, we are deeply concerned about the alarming frequency of crashes occurring at this junction. These incidents have been a regular occurrence here for many years and the fact that there has been nothing done to resolve this issue represents an absolute dereliction of Fingal CoCo and local councillors duty. People have been seriously injured due to their continued lack of action. Please sign and send a copy of this petition to balswooparea@fingal.ie
Fieldstown Bridge crossroads, located near Kilsallaghan and Oldtown, has become a notorious site for accidents. Part of the problem lies in the lack of adequate signage that leaves drivers unaware of the upcoming intersection. Rumble stripes were installed some years ago but were worn and have since been removed during resurfacing works and were never replaced. Stop signs are often hard to see due to overgrowth of vegetation and are lacking in their number and position. Additional signs for the upcoming crossroads should be placed on either side of the road, made larger and highlighted. The nearby solar sign is either insufficient or in the wrong place.
Rumble strips have been proven to alert inattentive drivers by generating noise and vibration, prompting them to reduce speed and proceed with caution. Enhanced signage is equally crucial in providing drivers with ample notice to anticipate the junction and make safer decisions.
It's imperative that we take action to prevent further accidents at Fieldstown Bridge crossroads. By addressing this urgent issue with practical measures, we can protect our community and enhance the overall safety of our roads.
Please join us in urging the local authorities to prioritise the installation of more signage and rumble strips on the Kilsallaghan and Oldtown sides of the crossroads. Together, we can make travel in our area safer for everyone. Sign the petition today to make a difference.
Update
The Operations departments traffic engineer has recently concluded that the signage is sufficient and its each drivers responsibility to drive with the appropriate caution.
If that was the case then why is there repeated accidents month after month at the same exact junction ? Surely accident blackspots deserve specific attention that may exceed the standard practice ?
