Today would be a good day, especially as we now have the first microchip database that meets Defra standards which is totally free to register and update your contact information.
Try it and see: https://www.petdatabase.com
Battersea dogs home reported that 63% of stray dogs found in 2021 either have no contact information or have the wrong contact information, this is why pets will not get back home.
We understand that your pet is part of the family and how heartbreaking it is if your pet is stolen or goes missing. That’s why it’s so important to keep your details up to date and give your family the best chance of reunification with your beloved pet. We are still waiting for Defra to decide if they will make it a legal obligation for the veterinary profession to check the microchip registration on all pets at first presentation, hopefully there will be an update from the last consultation before Christmas!!!
Occasionally they stop working, so worth getting scanned whenever they go to the vets
Have you moved house and forgotten to update the database with your new address?
Did you change your mobile phone number and not update the microchip details?
Details have gone missing or got confused on some databases, and they have relied on you, the owners, contacting them to check / update
Why wait for your pet to go missing or be stolen before you double-check
This is something that DogLost have come across more and more - PLEASE do check your pet’s microchip details are registered, are up to date and more importantly still on the database you registered with.
We recommend registering on the new FREE database that meets Government standards: http://petdatabase.com/?ref=doglost
Once registered:
You can update your own details as often as you need to yourself
There is no cost to make amendments
You can mark your pet as missing or stolen so it is instant
You will get an e-mail ‘ping’ if your pet is found, when the microchip registration is checked
KEEP SAFE
