Fence park area to be an informal dog park

Fence park area to be an informal dog park

The Issue

I have an older dog, and we often visit an open park. There, she plays freely. It's a simple joy, seeing her run around. Such activity is not only beneficial for the dogs, who enjoy physical activity and socialization, but also for dog owners like myself who relish in the community it fosters.

Currently, the park lacks an enclosed area specifically designated as a dog park.  So I have to contain her as soon as I see another dog.  While we, as a community, enjoy allowing our dogs to roam and play, it's sometimes worrisome without a fenced enclosure. The safety of our pets is paramount, and leashes complicate territorial instincts.

A fenced area would ensure that dogs are safe from traffic and any hazards, allowing them their much-needed exercise and playtime without concerns of them wandering off.

Moreover, an informal dog park would encourage responsible dog ownership. It will provide a space where dogs and owners can mingle, test out agility courses, and share knowledge about pet care. It would enhance the community spirit among us residents of Westminster, CA, fostering friendships among both dogs and humans.

The creation of a designated dog area doesn't require a large space, just a portion of the park that we can call our own. Such a project can be achieved through community efforts, local government collaboration, and potential sponsors who recognize the value in supporting our furry friends.

We kindly urge the Parks and Recreation Department of Westminster, CA, to consider this proposal. An informal dog park will enhance the quality of life for our pets and ourselves, offering a secure and fun environment in which dogs can thrive and people can unite. Please lend your support by signing this petition and contribute to making a dog park haven in Westminster.
