End Police Brutality in Nigeria

End Police Brutality in Nigeria
The Issue
It is no longer news hearing the horrid experiences innocent and well meaning Nigerians and other residents have been subjected to in the hands of SARS. They profile residents based on appearances alone and most times end up extorting, raping and killing their victims followed by a cover up.
Within days of a global protest to #EndSARS. The Nigeria Inspector General of Police announced a disbandment and in less than 48hrs announced a new outfit called SWAT.
SWAT is NOT THE SOLUTION. There needs to be a conversation involving all stake holders at the community level to discuss experiences, concerns and the way forward.
The entire police outfit needs to be REFORMED. Their training, salary structure, promotion guidelines, oversight and accountability are some of the areas that need to be looked into to map out a way forward.
Enough of the killings of Innocent people!
Enough of the bribery!
Enough of using these security outfits to oppress the masses.
We say #EndPoliceBrutality
We say #ReformNigeriaPolice
