Federally legalize marijuana

The Issue

Before working for a federally funded company, I used marijuana to help manage my anxiety and depression. Now, as an employee of a federally funded business, I've had to get a prescription for benzodiazepines to help manage my anxiety because medical marijuana use is not allowed, despite the fact that opioid and benzodiazepine prescriptions are accepted.

This discrepancy presents a serious oversight in our national drug policy. Benzodiazepines and opioids, while legal, come with well-documented risks of addiction and severe side effects. On the other hand, numerous studies have shown that marijuana can provide relief for anxiety and depression with significantly less risk.

Federally legalizing marijuana would offer a safer alternative to countless individuals who rely on more dangerous prescription medications. By removing marijuana from the federal list of controlled substances, we can promote a healthier approach to managing mental health and addiction, and allow individuals like me to choose what works best for them without fear of losing their jobs.

Moreover, federal legalization would help regulate and standardize production, ensuring safer products and creating economic growth through tax revenues and job creation in the hemp industry. Legalization could also reduce the stigma surrounding marijuana use, fostering a better understanding of its benefits and promoting more research.

Join me in urging our lawmakers to consider the benefits of federally legalizing marijuana. By supporting this cause, you contribute to a healthier and more rational drug policy in our nation, empowering individuals to make informed choices about their health. Let's influence change for a better, healthier future by signing this petition today.
