Petition to Turn Arclight Santa Monica into a Spirit Halloween

The Issue

In 2015, the Arclight Santa Monica opened its doors, and the doors to my heart. I didn’t actually hear about it until I started working at Arclight Hollywood in 2016, and at that point I thought, “huh, there’s more of these? Feels like there should just be the one.” In December of 2016 I finally made the Westward pilgrimage to one of Pacific Theaters’ most elusive destinations (seriously, I used to work call center and a good third of the calls were just, “where is this place?” The other two thirds were inquiring about the location of La Jolla, God rest its soul). I saw the movie ARRIVAL and cried a ton. It’s so good. Honestly this should just be a petition to stream ARRIVAL on Amazon Prime. It’s currently free if you have a membership. Great flick.

Little did I know, it would be the last time I went to Arclight Santa Monica...ever.

I just learned via The Trades last night that the now defunct Arclight is going be evicted by the owners of the Third Street Promenade. They were given seven days to pay up on their rent of a little under 369 million, and the way Variety puts it, Arclight left them on “read.” The theater chain doesn’t have to go home, but it can’t stay there.

So this leaves us with a problem. It’s a big, empty space, and there’s already like two AMC’s in the area that are way easier to find. I was originally going to propose that it be transformed into a tastefully lifeless Sephora, but I think there already is one in that very mall, nearby the tastefully lifeless Tesla dealer.

IDK. Let’s make it a Spirit Halloween. One of the pillars of Chris Foreman’s vision for Arclight was making it a “transformative experience.” Spirit Halloween allows me to transform into that guy from the Mandalorian. Din something? I don’t feel like looking it up.
