The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force has allegedly been responsible for the untimely death of many young Nigerians. Accounts of extra-judicial killings and executions abound all across Nigeria, allegations of Kidnapping and extortions, torture and lack of regard for human life and right trail the activities of SARS .

Given the fact that most of these SARS men remain largely untouched and protected from the legal implication of such heinous crimes, we call on the Government and the Inspector General of Police to set up a Panel of Investigation into all the reports of extrajudicial executions (too numerous to list), kidnapping, extortion and robbery. Victims and the families of deceased should be encouraged to come forward to give a formal report with a view to arresting and prosecuting those guilty of the crimes. Although SARS has been disbanded, we are calling for investigations into the criminal activities of these Police officers.

The Police Force needs to be sanitized and the best way to start would be to weed out corrupt and unscrupulous elements within the police force.
