FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA

The Federal Government of Nigeria operates in a framework of a federal presidential representative democratic republic, in which the President of Nigeria is both the head of state and the head of government, and of a multi-party system. Modeled after the United States' constitution, Nigeria's government is divided into three distinct branches - executive, legislative and judicial. The federal government holds executive power, while legislative power is vested in the National Assembly, which consists of the Senate, and the House of Representatives. The judiciary administers its duties independently, interpreting the constitution and the laws of the nation. Also, there are six geopolitical zones in the country, which are further divided into 36 states and one Federal Capital Territory.
