to survey the five Mount Glen Rock land parcels, the Sandy Creek area and selected surroundings, to locate our Koalas.
Once located, their health status will be assessed with scientific scat analysis.
During these surveys, areas in need of restoration and regeneration will be identified.
All work on Country will be carefully overseen by representatives from the Jagera and Jinibara people.
In partnership with the Somerset Regional Council, Care4esK will also undertake a weed eradication program, followed by the planting of hundreds of Koala food trees.
These tree planting days, will be an opportunity for the community to participate and to learn about the Flora and Fauna of the area whilst we work together providing the future food for our precious Koalas.
The project, named 'KHaRES' (Koala Health and Rehabilitation Esk Somerset) is expected to run between 12 and 18 months in total, however our time on Country will be limited to short blocks during this period.
Later this year, Care4esK plans to present a Community Information day at a venue yet to be decided.
The day will include guest speakers from various Conservation and Wildlife organisations.
Looking ahead, we are very excited to have the opportunity to deliver this project and we envision a positive year of community collaboration.
Care4esK certainly welcome participants in our Citizen Science days of planting and learning.
Please let us know if you are interested.
Care4esK would like to thank the Commonwealth Government for this wonderful opportunity.
Also, thank you to our Federal member for the Blair electorate Shayne Neumann, our State member for the Nanango electorate Deb Frecklington, the First Nations people of Jagera and Jinibara, and the Somerset Regional Council for supporting our project.
Care4esK appreciates the community who continue to support us and our shared love for Flora and Fauna.
We look forward to working together over this next 12-18 months.
We will continue to keep you updated with progress throughout this wonderful Koala Research Project...
