Once again...Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, to everyone for signing and sharing our petition.
This development in its current form MUST BE STOPPED!!!
On Thursday, a small group of impacted residents of Esk, officially met with Somerset Regional Council representatives, including Mayor, Graeme Lehmann at Council chambers.
These Esk residents are now collectively known as Care4esK.
Care4esK have developed an unofficial, alternate plan for the future of Mount Glen Rock, the Esk township and the Somerset Region.
This proposal was presented to Council during the meeting.
The Care4esK plan is thoughtful, innovative, forward thinking, highly sustainable and embraces the unique Flora and Fauna of Mount Glen Rock and the region.
It proposes working alongside Traditional Custodians and experts to honour and restore our environment for future generations to visit, learn from and to respect, whilst still offering the Somerset Regional Council many economic opportunities for our region.
Care4esK believes its proposal is far more beneficial for the long term growth for Esk as a township, yet far more gentle, not only on the environment and wildlife, but also for residents who would be adversely affected by the current Mount Glen Rock Adventure Park development plan.
Council offered very little feedback to Care4esK, other than agreeing that the proposal was positive, and to thank the group for their effort.
Care4esK are awaiting the upcoming Information evening, to be presented by Somerset Regional Council on Wednesday night, the 13th of April, before making the details of their plan public.
Yesterday, I personally had the privilege of exploring some parts of the Mount Glen Rock with a Traditional Custodian. We walked gently together into one of Mount Glen Rock's beautiful water courses, discovering some edible plants and ochre rocks along the way.
Sadly though, whilst appreciating the beauty, we were blatantly reminded of the impact that Somerset Regional Council is already having on the environment of Mount Glen Rock.
Late in 2021, Somerset Regional Council engaged contractors to upgrade the Sandy Creek Fire Trail, as the first stage of this development.
Contractors left items such as sand bags, painted hardwood stakes and sections of shade cloth, within these water courses to impede water flow. Following the February rains, these items have now been washed down further into many of the water courses, only to be left by the Somerset Regional Council as LITTER...as shown in just one water course, in the above update photo.
Furthermore, hundreds of cubic metres of road base materials were used in the trail upgrade, resulting in this foreign material now being distributed throughout these once untouched streams.
This is a prime example of Somerset Regional Council's lack of understanding of, and respect for nature.
It takes very little imagination, to understand why we all need to ensure that the CURRENT MOUNT GLEN ROCK ADVENTURE PARK PLAN IS BLOCKED.
Please help us and the Care4esK group, to continue the battle.
