In China, manufacturers are falsely branding knockoff items with harmful chemicals as actual food. Fake Food, which is the phrase used to describe China’s chemically manufactured replicas of actual foods, has been on an all time high this year. The scandal first began in 2003 with Poisonous Ham, and despite it resulting in many deaths, not much has been done to eliminate the unethical production of food. Fast forward 14 years later, and China continues with its inhumane practices. The Chinese aren’t doing much to address the issue, and being one of the top importers of food to the U.S, it is only a matter of time before fake foods are stacked on the shelves of American grocery stores. As a model country, and a possible victim of this scandal, the U.S should bring more awareness and consider the fake food scandal to be a threat to human rights.
